Solid Rock Lodge- Bahareque bamboo wall structure

This project was initiated by a Danish client who wanted to start a business in Nepal and retire here. The client was looking for a sustainable and low-cost building solution. We proposed using bamboo and wood frame technology from the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR), specifically the bahareque wall.

The entire construction project included three buildings. The first building was the existing mud and stone two-storey structure on the land. The second building was a 600 sq ft residential building for the client and their family. The third building was a commercial building consisting of three separate buildings, each with two rooms, attached bathrooms, and a balcony, with a total area of about 300 sq ft per building.

We constructed a bahareque composite wall using a combination of wood and bamboo. We then plastered cement on both sides of the wall. We also built a thatched roof using bamboo purlins and rafters with CGI roofing. The attached bathrooms in all the rooms were decorated with tiles, and the flooring consisted of wooden parqueting.

Although the planned construction time was six months, it took a year to complete due to an economic blockade that occurred in 2016. However, the resort is currently operating smoothly, and the client is living with their family in the residential building.
