Reconstruction of Bangladesh Pavilion at ICIMOD

In 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating earthquake that destroyed various properties, including the Bangladesh Pavilion at ICIMOD, Khumaltar, Lalitpur. This building held great value and significance. The reconstruction project was initiated by architect Sarosh Pradhan, from Sarosh Pradhan and Associates, who led the overall construction project. During our early stages of establishment, GBC was fortunate enough to work with him under his supervision.

Our task was to rebuild the Pavilion structure using bamboo. The overall structure was made from steel and the decorative work was done by bamboo. We recycled bamboo strips from the previously made structure to create a new one.

Our work on the Bangladesh Pavilion project was highly successful, and the organization was pleased with our efforts. As a result, we were awarded another project for ICIMOD in 2018. This project involved constructing a roof for a canteen, covering an area of 3000 sq. ft and covering the overall metal structure with bamboo strips.

We achieved an attractive and eco-friendly look for the roof by using Nigalo bamboo to create a false ceiling and Mal bamboo to cover the metal work. This natural fall ceiling not only provided insulation from the heat and cold, but also acted as a beautiful design element for the CGI roofing.
