Okharbot Organic Farm

Okharbot Organic Farm is a permaculture fruit and vegetable farm covering 50 acres, located east of Kathmandu, between Dhulikhel and Namobuddha. The farm has around 250 mandarin trees, 100 other fruit trees, and a variety of vegetables grown in the greenhouse and around the main farm buildings. The cows and goats on the farm provide compost and milk.

Visitors to the farm can enjoy walking trails, as well as larger hiking trails surrounding the farm. The farm has its water supply, and soon it will have its wastewater treatment system and solar energy.

The area includes two buildings constructed using Rammed earth – one for the client and another for visitors/customers. We worked on creating internal wall partitions using a bahareque technique, with wooden frames and flattened bamboo strips used for wall types, and chicken wire mesh used for mud plaster on both sides of the wall.

The mud plaster was created using high-quality materials such as fine-grained red mud, sand, limestone, hay, cow dung, and mustard oil. Such materials help improve the air quality of the room and provide thermal insulation as well.
