Eco Village Pokhara
In 2014/15, a team led by social activist Mr. Raymond from Luxemburg and local social workers from Pokhara embarked on a project at the SOS Bahini Eco Village in Pokhara. The objective of the project was to construct eco-friendly buildings using natural materials such as bamboo, mud and wood. Specifically, they aimed to build a girls’ hostel for orphan girls studying in different government and private schools.
The project covered an area of about 10 Ropani of land on the way to Lakeside called Shantinagar, Pokhara. The project consisted of a kitchen, training hall, and double-storey hostel for the girls. The buildings were constructed using bamboo and mud as the primary materials, and the team even crafted furniture for the classrooms, bunk beds for the hostel, and various other bamboo furnishings.
Mr. Krishna Aryal designed and oversaw the construction of the pavilion, a bamboo bahareque house with a 20ft radius and an area of 1100 Sq ft. The construction was completed in just 18 months under the direction of the factory head, Mr. Chandra Bahadur Thing.
In addition to the buildings, the team also provided decorative work such as fencing and unique designs. Instead of a normal guard post, they put up a bamboo guard post and added bamboo decorations to the garden to make the space more aesthetically appealing.
