Bamboo Pagoda Pavilion
The bamboo pagoda pavilion was constructed at Akasha Academy to serve as a meditation center for the staff, guests, and visitors. This pavilion can accommodate up to 40 people for meditation and also serves as a multipurpose building for office meetings, seminars, and various training programs. The construction primarily used locally available natural materials, showcasing Nepali culture and tradition. The pavilion covers an area of 646 square feet and was completed on June 15, 2023, in Suntakhan, Gokarneshwor, Kathmandu.
The materials used in construction include RCC column structure with metal joints fabrication for the foundation, Bambusa Balcooa (Harauti) and Bambusa Nutan (Mal) for the structure, reused clay tile on the roof, flattened bamboo ceiling, Marmoleum flooring, foldable wood and bamboo composite doors, wattle and daub (Kattar) wall partition, and natural bamboo lights. The mud wall composition consists of 75% red mud, 15% cow dung, and 10% husk, while the plaster composition is 50% red mud and 50% lime. The walls are dyed with red mud and lime, and the bamboo is painted with touch wood waterproofing paint.
The concept design was created by Mr. Krishna Aryal, a bamboo expert, and the drawing design was done by Ar. Bihendra Maharjan of Foresight Architect. The construction was carried out by Green Bamboo Creation Pvt. Ltd (GBC).
