Madi Community Hall

A company named Connecting Spaces from Switzerland generously funded the construction of a community hall in Madi, Chitwan. The project wouldn’t have come to fruition without the help of Sustainable Mountain Architecture (SMA), who provided design and project management, and the local community, who contributed human resources.

GBC provided bamboo training, including bamboo treatment, processing, and executing the building according to the design, with all bamboo work.

The community hall is for the people of the Bode community in Madi, where they can preserve their culture and showcase their talents. As people from the community worked on this project, it was initially challenging because they were not familiar with bamboo building techniques. However, we provided them with all the necessary training and information, which resulted in the successful completion of the project.

The bamboo used in the construction of the hall was sourced from the local community and treated at the riverside. The treatment process was successful, and with the help of SMA for structural design, we were able to build the hall.

The pillars were made of bamboo and created with bamboo joints. This idea came from our team, which has worked on similar projects for over 15 years. The roof was made of Khar wood sourced from the local area, which was one of the most important parts of the hall.
