Strengthen and Scale Up of Market Actors and Entrepreneurs of Treated Bamboo Housing Service in Nepal
Green Bamboo Creation (GBC) and Habitat for Humanity International Nepal (HFHN) signed a pivotal contract on 15th September 2022 aimed at strengthening and scaling up the market for treated bamboo housing services in Nepal. This project’s core objective is to demonstrate and promote the benefits of treated bamboo as a durable, affordable, and eco-friendly housing solution, especially in Nepal’s Eastern Terai Region.
As part of Habitat for Humanity Nepal’s Impact 2026 Project Phase II, this initiative seeks to expand the adoption of treated bamboo housing solutions among low-income families in the region. Phase II builds on the success of Phase I, which focuses on researching market barriers, improving bamboo treatment methods, and refining house designs. Over the next seven years, the Impact 2026 Project aims to significantly increase the use of safe and affordable bamboo housing for underserved communities in Eastern Terai.
A key component of Phase II is the development of a scalable, market-based strategy for selling bamboo housing solutions. This strategy involves extensive research, testing, and collaboration with financial institutions, local households, and market actors to create an effective system for promoting and selling bamboo homes. The project focuses on innovative solutions to overcome market barriers, making treated bamboo housing a viable and sustainable option for low-income families in the region.
