Collaboration with Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST)

Green Bamboo Creation (GBC) recently visited Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST) and was highly inspired by the university’s efforts in organic agriculture, forest biomaterials, artificial intelligence, and sustainable infrastructure. MBUST has designed its courses to focus on education as well as its practical applications, entrepreneurship, and market development. The university is also deeply committed to promoting eco-friendly construction methods, especially through the use of bamboo as a sustainable and durable building material.

One of the key discussions during the visit was about research on different bamboo species, such as Bambusa Balcooa and Bambusa Nutans. The university is studying their structural properties, mechanical strength, and potential uses in construction. GBC sees an opportunity to collaborate by co-developing a bamboo construction course or training program, bringing together academic institutions, private organizations, and social enterprises like Habitat for Humanity and BASE.

Another exciting project at MBUST is the Shyath Ghar (Rest House) Museum in Chitlang, which aims to preserve traditional Nepali architecture. The university plans to use bamboo and Compressed Bamboo Fiber Technology (CBFT) in its construction, ensuring sustainability while maintaining cultural heritage. Both MBUST and GBC also explored the idea of establishing a bamboo treatment facility at the university, which would help in bamboo research, preservation, and application in modern construction.

GBC is eager to support MBUST in its sustainable initiatives and is confident that this collaboration will bring innovative solutions in green construction, benefiting both the university and Nepal’s broader building sector. This partnership marks the beginning of a shared vision for eco-friendly, resilient, and affordable bamboo-based housing and infrastructure. Its outcome will be used to the advantage of bamboo farmers, processing and pre-processing facilities and bamboo structure architect and construction firms.
