GBC Co-Organizes Nepal’s First National Bamboo Conference

Bamboo is a valuable natural resource with the potential to support the environment, create jobs, and boost the economy. Recognizing this, Green Bamboo Creation, in partnership with Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, Forest Research and Training Center (FRTC), Babarmahal, and the Ministry of Tourism, Forest and Environment (Koshi Province), co-organized the First National Bamboo Conference 2081 in Diktel, Khotang, Nepal.

A Step Towards a Sustainable Future

Held on Falgun 15-17, 2081 (February 27 – March 1, 2025), the conference aimed to promote bamboo’s role in livelihood, sustainability, circular economy, and economic growth in Nepal.

With the slogan “Bamboo makes life, life makes bamboo,” the event brought together key experts and stakeholders to discuss the future of Nepal’s bamboo industry.

The event was organized in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Nepal and supported by over 20 national and international government and non-governmental institutions.

As a leader in bamboo-based handicrafts, construction, and furniture, Green Bamboo Creation played a key role in shaping the event’s vision, managing logistics, and ensuring a successful conference. The event served as a platform to discuss challenges in bamboo cultivation, processing, and commercialization while encouraging collaboration for future growth.

Before the main conference, pre-events were held in all seven provinces of Nepal and Kathmandu, the federal capital. These events saw enthusiastic participation from local farmers, government representatives, students, entrepreneurs, and bamboo enthusiasts, who shared their concerns, suggestions, and feedback with the organizing committee.

Representatives from Green Bamboo Creation and other organizers worked to identify challenges in bamboo farming and usage, raise awareness about its benefits—especially for sustainable and affordable housing—and gather key discussion topics for the main conference. The insights from these pre-events played a crucial role in shaping the conference agenda and guiding discussions on policy changes and industry improvements.
