Bamboo Workshop by Green Bamboo Creation at MAD

During the Mountain Architecture Dialogue (MAD) workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal, Green Bamboo Creation (GBC) hosted a specialized bamboo workshop aimed at inspiring young architects in Nepal to explore sustainable bamboo construction techniques. The workshop focused on fostering a resilient and harmonious relationship between humanity and nature and provided in-depth training on bamboo use in architecture.

Led by experts from Green Bamboo Creation, including Pranab Pradhan (bamboo entrepreneur), Krishna Aryal (bamboo structure expert specializing in civil and joinery), and Pradip Dangal (bamboo and forestry expert), the workshop covered essential aspects of bamboo as a building material. Participants learned about the various species of bamboo native to Nepal, harvesting, treatment methods, and the practical applications of bamboo in construction. Pradip Dangal introduced the fundamentals of bamboo, guiding participants on identification and treatment techniques, while Krishna Aryal led hands-on sessions on bamboo cross-cutting, knot removal, and splitting.

In the second phase, Krishna Aryal demonstrated the construction of fish mouth joints, explaining how to make and connect them with metal, along with overlap joints and other joint types. He also showcased the use of metal and concrete connections for bamboo, providing valuable insights into creating durable, eco-friendly structures. This bamboo workshop aimed to equip the next generation of architects with the knowledge and skills to incorporate bamboo construction into their designs, promoting sustainable building practices in Nepal.
