Bamboo Workshop by GBC at MAD
The Sustainable Mountain Architecture recently organized the Mountain Architecture Dialogue (MAD) workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal, to establish a resilient and harmonious coexistence between humanity. Concurrently, Green Bamboo Creation hosted a bamboo workshop tailored for aspiring, dedicated young architects in Nepal.
The workshop was facilitated by experts from Green Bamboo Creation, including Pranab Pradhan, a bamboo entrepreneur; Krishna Aryal, a bamboo structure expert specializing in civil and joinery; and Pradip Dangal, a bamboo expert with expertise in forestry. Pranab Pradhan, the founder of Green Bamboo Creation, provided insights into the bamboo industry in Nepal.
Pradip Dangal commenced the session by introducing bamboo, elucidating the various species found in Nepal, discussing identification techniques, and detailing bamboo harvesting and treatment methods. Participants had the opportunity for hands-on experience with bamboo under the guidance of Krishna Aryal, who covered bamboo cross-cutting, knot removal, splitting, and cleaning.
In the second phase of the workshop, Krishna Aryal demonstrated the prototype of fish mouth joints, practically illustrating the process of making and connecting them with metal. The session also included explanations on overlap joints, metal connections, and a demonstration of whole bamboo filling connections. Aryal further showcased a concrete joint using a metal rod, providing comprehensive information on metal, concrete, and bamboo joint connections.
